Eats and drinks
Tarr Farm Inn
http://www.tarrfarm.co.uk/
Set in the beautiful Barle Valley on Exmoor, the Tarr Farm Inn at Tarr Steps is great for Sunday lunch after a good walk up the valley. Owners also have the Royal Oak at Winsford, another cracking foodie pub.
Fremington Quay Cafe, Tarka Trail
http://www.fremingtonquaycafe.co.uk/
This award winning cafe is housed in a renovated railway station on the Tarka Trail overlooking the beautiful Taw estuary, next to the RSPB reserve. In March 2006 the cafe was 17th in the Independent Newspaper’s "50 Best Cafes in the UK" - the only establishment in North Devon.
The Poltimore Arms, Yarde Down, Exmoor
http://www.diningpubs.co.uk/pub_details.asp?id=2411
Fantastic pub in lovely remote location on edge of Exmoor. No mains electricity, they don't take credit cards, but the food's superb - try the whitebait or Exmoor Red Ruby beef. Beer's pretty good too...
Squires Fish Restaurant
http://www.restaurant-guide.com/squires-fish-restaurant.htm
Legendary fish n chip restaurant in Braunton - eat in or take away, but be prepared to queue if you haven't booked during holiday season. Just the best fish n chips you will ever taste, with wafer thin beer batter and super fresh, perfectly cooked fish. That's it, I'm off there now...
The Sands Cafe Bar, Saunton Sands

A stone's throw away from the roaring Atlantic Ocean, the Sands Café offers a relaxed, beachside vibe just a short stroll from the Saunton Sands Hotel. Light bites are on offer during the day; drop in for a full English breakfast, a frothy cappuccino or to enjoy lunch with a view - the terrace is perfect for al fresco dining and offers a great vantage point for watching the day's surfing.
